Announcements July 18 - 22, 2022

The first day of school for the 2022-23 school year at Forest City - Dunbar starts tomorrow, July 18.  We are excited to get started with a new school year!

The announcements below are a repeat of last week, but contains very important information if you have not read it yet.

You can find the 2022-23 FC-Dunbar calendar linked below:
Regular school day hours are 8:15-3:15. Students may be dropped off at car riders as early as 7:40. Car riders should be dropped off at the gym entrance.

If you plan to enter the school building or come to the office window for assistance, please park in a designated parking space. Do NOT park along the curb at any time.

Car riders will be dismissed from the gym beginning at 3:15. Parents and designated family members who pick up students should wait in the car rider line. Please do not try to beat the line by coming to the office to pick up students before 3:15. Also, do not park and walk to the gym door to beat the line. Those who are in the car rider line will receive priority in picking up students.

Please only pick your child up early in the office when there is a need to, such as an appointment or other specific reason. Those who have a legitimate reason pick up your child early on a regular basis will need to communicate with the principal to provide a reason and develop a plan.
Students will only be released to parents, guardians, or designated family members that have been listed on the updated Student Information Sheets. Please make sure this information and your phone numbers are updated. Contact the office anytime you change your phone number so we can get in touch with you.

Parents, guardians, and other adults who check out students will be required to show their ID and enter information in our electronic check-out system. Any visitor to the building must register through the electronic check-in system and receive a visitor pass. Be sure to bring your driver's license or other state issued ID anytime you come to the school building.

You will be asked by your child's teacher to indicate whether your child will regularly be a car rider or bus rider each afternoon. Any changes to your child's regular way home should be communicated to the school no later than 2:30 on the day of the change.

The Young Scholars after school program will begin in early August. We will send out invitations to qualifying students shortly after school begins.

Students will continue to receive free breakfast and lunch each day. Breakfast will be served in the classrooms once students arrive in the morning. Kindergarten and 1st grade will eat lunch in the classroom, while 2nd-5th grade will eat in the cafeteria this year.

Please prioritize good attendance for your child, including being on time and staying the full day. Whenever your child is absent, you must communicate with the school through a written note, phone call, or text/Dojo Message to the teacher as to the reason for the absence. Allowable reasons will be coded as "excused" up through 10 days of absence. A doctor's note is required to excuse absences after 10 days of absence. We will share more information with you in the coming days regarding the importance of good attendance and state law regarding student attendance.

The student uniform dress code can be found at the link below. We made updates in April 2022 to this policy to expand allowable clothing options. Please help your child to be in compliance with these guidelines. All of these guidelines will be enforced from day one of school. We will communicate with parents and provide support when students are not in compliance with the uniform dress code.

In addition to PE, Library, Music, and STEM Lab, we are adding a new Specials Class this year. Mrs. Linda Guffey will be teaching a Social-Emotional Learning class that focuses on the "Leader in Me" and the "7 Habits of Happy Kids" as well as other concepts that will help students manage their feelings and relationships with others. Art will be an additional specials class for 3rd-5th graders only.
