Announcements August 23 - 27, 2021

With the other Rutherford County Schools starting tomorrow Monday, August 23 please be aware that we will continue to share bus routes with Spindale Elementary.  Additionally, there will be different bus drivers for afternoon routes since Spindale is responsible for assigning afternoon drivers.  Because of this, bus routes may be slightly later in both the morning and afternoon over the next few days.  Once Spindale gets its routes in a routine and new drivers adjust, Forest City - Dunbar bus routes should return to a more normal time.  Thank you for your patience in this adjustment process.

The Young Scholars After School program begins for registered students this week.  Young Scholars operates Monday-Thursday from 3:15-6:15.  Young Scholars is a grant funded after school tutoring program by invitation only due to a limited number of spaces.  We will continue to offer more invitations once we determine the actual number of students attending.

Since Monday, August 9, 2021, face coverings have been optional for students, school employees, and
visitors to all Rutherford County Schools facilities, both indoors and outdoors. While the choice to wear or
not to wear a face covering within the school environment ultimately rests with each individual, local, state,
and national public health officials continue to recommend face coverings in schools, and the quarantine
requirements that schools must follow in the event of a COVID-19 exposure within the school setting have
been relaxed.

Unlike last year, students who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 do not need to quarantine
following an exposure to a confirmed positive case of COVID-19 within the school environment if they and
the person diagnosed with COVID-19 wore appropriate face coverings at the time of exposure. This
exemption from quarantine applies to COVID-19 exposures in classrooms, other in-school settings, and school transportation vehicles. This exception from quarantine does not apply to teachers, staff, or other adults who are exposed to a confirmed positive case of COVID-19 within the indoor classroom setting.

Be aware that these guidelines for quarantines following exposure are slightly different than the guidelines we began our school year with.  Our school nurse or a member of our staff will contact parents/guardians directly if their child is ever considered to be exposed to a positive COVID-19 case.

Reminder that EVERYONE must wear a cloth face covering while riding a yellow or white school bus.  This is NOT optional.  We encourage students who ride the bus in the morning or afternoon to bring their own cloth face covering.  However, bus riders who do not get on the bus with a cloth face covering will be provided with one.
