Together We Can
Positive Behavior Interventions and Support

Dear Forest City-Dunbar Families:

Appropriate behavior and a positive school climate is a priority at Forest City-Dunbar Elementary School. As a Leader in Me School, our theme and approach to building positive relationships is centered on the“Seven Habits of Happy Kids.”

What is Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) anyway? Simply put, it a proactive approach to school-wide positive discipline. We have established a set of school-wide expectations based on the “Seven Habits” which will be taught, modeled, practiced, and reinforced here at Forest City-Dunbar. We will recognize the positive behaviors of students doing what is expected of them as well as supporting students who need extra assistance to reach our school-wide expectations.

Our motto and vision is: TOGETHER WE CAN!

Please refer to the copy of the PBIS Matrix to see our school-wide behavioral expectations following the “Seven Habits.”

  1. Be Proactive
  2. Begin with the End in Mind
  3. Put First Things First
  4. Think Win-Win
  5. Seek First to Understand, Then be Understood
  6. Synergize
  7. Sharpen the Saw

We have a reward system in place for rewarding students who demonstrate and follow these these expectations. Each class will work to track behaviors on a special star chart. Once a student fills up their star chart that student will earn a prize!

As a part of the “Together We Can” team, you are a valuable partner in making this work! Discuss the matrix with your child. Give us your input as to how our system is working. We recognize the importance of working as partners with families and want your input and involvement as we strive to create the best possible school experience for your child. It is our expectation that you will help us keep the excitement going throughout this school year!
